Hoping to reunite with some of my old work buddies. Was a heavy equip. operator with Co. D, mostly operated an M290 scraper. Was with Co. D from May 68 to end of Aug. 69.

Admin reply: I hope you do too!

My father was with the 61st Combat Engineers. His name is Andrew B. Oros from West Aliquippa, PA
I am in the beginning of researching his trek during WWII.
He spoke little of his time there but did share some info with me. I have photo's and a detailed WWII map he kept showing his travels.
I hope to learn and share as much information as I can with this group.
How do I become a member?

My grandfather, Robert Wise, served with the 351st Engineers, Co B. Until after my grandmother's death, that was all any of us knew. Then my mother stumbled on his articles of Separation and I began my search. I sent to the archives for his records and was able to obtain his medical records, another copy of his discharge and his intake physical. I too was told his records had burnt in a fire. Finding your website has been great. Thank you!

Hi Marion,
I've been roaming through the site and want to thank you for your hard work in assembling and organizing so much information. My stepdad, Sgt. George Carmen Fanelli, was in the 36th from its inception to the end of WWII. I'm still going through the photos, letters and other memorabilia unearthed from the attic this past year. Like so many of the men, he rarely talked about his experiences, although he was still having nightmares even after I left home in the late 1950s. More to come (I hope) later.

Admin reply: I can't wait to see what you have. Sounds like a treasure trove. Would love to be able to add his to our website. Thank you for your kind words. ;)

My grandfather was in the 806 th. Engineer Co. Aviation Battalion that served on Saipan & Rvukyus (GO 33 WD 45) during WW II. I have a copy of his discharge statement and it states that he was awarded 2 Bronze Stars. No one in my family has ever mentioned this so I'm not sure anyone was aware. Is it possible for me to find out more info. on this?
His name and info. is:
Herbert M. Smith T5
Service #18 119 348
Discharged @ Ft. Sam Houston, Tx. on 8 December 1945.
Thank you,
Mel Brown

Admin reply: There are two different kinds - The Bronze Star Medal and Bronze Stars which were worn on the Campaign Ribbon. You can read more about it here:

My late father-in-law proudly served in Company B of the 253rd Combat Engineers during WWII. Before he passed away I tried to find information on his group so that maybe he could get in contact with some of his war buddies. At the time I did not find much.

Today while carrying out some additional research I ran across your website and noted that one of your members had secured the Unit History documents for the 253rd. I have sent Mrs. Chard an email so that hopefully, I can get a copy of these documents so that I can give a copy to my wife and her two brothers.

Thank you so much for all of the efforts in developing such a great website.

Respectfully,
Alejandro Martinez
son-in-law to the late Dale Cory/WWII Co B, 253rd Combat Engineers

Admin reply: So nice to make your acquaintance. Happy to share whatever documents you would like. Most are downloadable. :o

My 93 yr old Dad served with the 1259th Engineer Combat Battalion in Europe during WW II. Does anybody know what the "engineer specific" shoulder patch looks like for this unit? Some background: his unit was established at Camp Pickett by order of XIII Corps. Moved to Fort Pierce U.S. Navy top secret frogman training base as only U.S. Army unit stationed there, attached to XVIII Corps. This base was forerunner of today's Navy Seals. Moved to Camp Jackson & then to LeHavre & Camp Lucky Strike attached to XII Corps. Moved to Marseilles attached to OISE Intermediate Section Communications Zone, Hdqts Allied Expeditionary Forces. Unit had orders directly from Ike to move to Luzon Manilla Bay through Suez Canal to build main hospital in Pacific Theater to prepare for Operation Downfall, invasion of mainland Japan. Atom bomb hit Hiroshima and 1259th orders cancelled and moved to Boston as war ended. Thanks

Admin reply: Unfortunately I'm not showing an insignia patch for this unit in the American Society of Engineers reference. Some units did not have one, or were assigned one years after the war.

Testing. Evidently our guestbook wasn't allowing people to sign the book. Arghh! So sorry about that. Trying to fix the problem this morning.

Marion

Admin reply: Problem solved. My apologies to everyone whose posts went bye-bye into cyberspace.

Hello, I met you at the Brighton Health Center about 4 years ago, and saw you again today. Thanks so much for the autograph! It means a lot to me, as I am a WWll history buff, especially the events regarding Normandy and the 101st Airborne Division. You are the true American Heroes! Thanks for your service to our country!!
Hope to see you again.
Sincerely Denise E. Chrzanowski

Hi there!
Your site is fantastic, I really enjoy browsing through that mass of information you've collected.
Unfortunately the forum registration is not working due to a database error. :!thinking:
Continue the good work!

Admin reply: We've had successful registrations all week. It's a manual process. You have to submit, then it comes across my desk and I send a personal message, to which you have to reply. I don't approve registrations, until I get a reply back. :!cool:
